Noted Marathi director Sanjay Surkar passes away

Surkar, 53, was shooting with his unit when he collapsed.

He was declared dead on admission to the hospital, sources said.

The director, known for his experimental handling of novel themes in Marathi cinema, had earned critical acclaim for his films like 'Saatchya Aat Gharat', 'Chowkat Raja', 'Tu tithe me' and 'Anandache Zaad'.

He also directed Marathi television serial 'Avantika'.

Surkar had also conceived a film on the life of freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak.
