A division bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen ordered issue of notice to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Chief Secretary when the petition filed by an advocate S Umesh came up for preliminary hearing.
The petitioner submitted that BBMP some years ago had leased out a number of public properties for a period of 30 years and 99 years for a meagre annual rent of Rs 100 which had in turn been sublet by the lessees for a hefty sum, thus causing a huge loss to BBMP as well as the state exchequer.
"The BBMP which claims to be under loss should either take back such public properties or give it on rent at the present market rate," the petitioner contended.
