Sixteen senior officers have been served notices for "misusing" garages attached to their government accommodations in the posh Rabindra Nagar and Chanakyapuri areas in the national capital.
They have been served with notices stating that if compliance with the rules is not ensured in 15 days, the allotment of the accommodation would be cancelled by the Urban Development Ministry, a source said.
The move comes after officials of the Directorate of Estates, under the Urban Development Ministry, inspected 19 garages attached to the 'Government Pool General Accommodation' (GPRA) houses in Rabindra Nagar and found that 11 of them were allegedly being misused.
They also inspected 11 garages in Chanakyapuri and found five of them were allegedly violating the rules.
Directorate of Estates regularly undertake inspection of use of government houses and garages to avoid misuse including sub-letting.
