With the completion of Panchayat elections in West Bengal, the newly constituted boards of the rural bodies are set to take over the task of building rural Bengal in a more constructive way the earliest possible.
"The newly formed boards of the rural bodies will take over the responsibilities soon. Notifications for election to the boards of Gram Panchayats (GP), Panchayat Samities (PS) and Zilla Parishads (ZP) will be issued tomorrow, August 23 and August 30 respectively," West Bengal Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee said here today.
Elections to the GP would be held between August 14 and August 19, PS between August 30 and September 3 and ZP between September 7 and September 14 to form the new boards in those respective bodies, Mukherjee said.
After the election process was over, the Panchayat department would organise training for the elected members in the three-tier rural bodies with training for Zilla Parishad members taking place at the State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development, Kalyani, in Nadia district.
Training of the elected members at both the Gram Panchayats and Panchayat Samities would be held at the respective districts from time to time, he said.
The minister said he would meet all the District Magistrates and Additional District Magistrates in the city on August 12 to enlighten them on government's focus on various ongoing and new projects and how they could be expedited in an effective manner maintaining total transparency.
"Most of the projects came to a halt because of rural poll process in the state. Now steps are being taken to gear up all these pending projects to complete them expeditiously," Mukherjee said.
