With thrillers becoming the flavour of the season for Bengali movie goers, actor Indraneil Sengupta is now all set to appear as another popular sleuth Kiriti Roy, created by writer late Nihar Ranjan Gupta.
"Ever since Byomkesh thriller 'Sajarur Kanta', where I portrayed a businessman, I had nourished the desire to etch out a sleuth's role and it is happening at last. I get to portray Kiriti," Indraneil told PTI here.
Indraneil, who rated Feluda as his favourite crime thriller, said he hoped to fit in the readers' perception.
Asked which of the recent sleuth thrillers he had watched, Indraneil, the suave-talking villain in 'Kahaani' said, "Frankly speaking I didnot have the chance to see any of the recent crime thrillers in Bengal (excepting Sajarur Kanta)."
Asked if he saw any challenges from actor-colleagues in the industry who have been cast as sleuths in other recent films, Indraneil shot back, "I am more concerned about my film, not about how such characters are brought to life by other actors. Such parallels are only drawn by you, the Kolkata media."
"I am not here to prove a point," Indraneil, who had been cast in award winner Arekti Premer Galpo by Kaushik Ganguly couple of years back, said.

The 'Autograph' actor, who was sporting back-brushed hair, said he thought his physicality matched with that of Kiriti, the mirror image of real life writer Nihar Ranjan Gupta and there would be lots of action in the upcoming film.
About directors heavily drawing from literature, Indraneil had a different take on it. "Yes there had been excellent literary collections in Bengal. But why should we only exploit that! Can't we devise fresh, original story lines!"
Director Anindya Bikas Dutta said Indraneil had an uncanny resemblance with the writer at young age, having intelligent, sharp looks and a macho image.
He said detective stories have an universal appeal and can be fitted to any time element by a little bit contemporising like changing the austin to a present day sedan but retaining the theme color black, the favourite hue of the sleuth and its creator.
I settled for 'Kalobhramar' as it was a complex story of a psychopath, Anidya, a famous director on small screen and having debuted as a feature film maker in Bonku Babu two years back, said.
Actor Arunima Ghosh, the wife of Kiriti in the flick, said she was happy the way women were having greater screen presence in present day crime thrillers unlike in the past (read Feluda films).
"I am the support system of Kiriti in 'Kalobhramar' as his girlfriend and we later get married. There is high time women should be accorded due space in our films," Arunima, having starred in Bappaditya Bandopadhyay's 'Nayika Sangbad' two years back opposite Indraneil, said.
