Now fish landings only on notified ramps in Goa: govt

Goa government has now mandated fish landings only on notified jetties as a security measure to avoid any anti-national activity at these river inlets.
"Government has decided to make it mandatory for the fishing canoes and other vessels to land the fish only on notified ramps or jetties," reads the notification issued by the government here yesterday.
The notification has exempted traditional fish landing sites on the shorelines used for ages from the ban.
A senior fisheries department official said the notification is in response to Coastal Security Coordination Committee, which had recommended ban on landing of fish at un-notified ramps or jetties other than the traditional ones.

The notification also states that, "Fish landing takes place at various major centres as well as traditional ones. It has become necessary to monitor all ramps in the state and restrict their number from the view of coastal security."
In order to avoid inconvenience to the fishing industry, the government has already notified 28 fish landing jetties and ramps across the state which are in addition to the traditional ones.
The maritime security has attained importance following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
Goa Police has set up Coastal Police Stations across the coastline to keep a check on any anti-national activity.
