With this, 12 crore customers at 19,000 bank branches of all 56 regional rural banks (RRBs) would be part of the national network of electronic payment systems, according to a release issued here.
"The divide between big banks and regional rural banks (RRBs) are no longer valid. This will boost the ecosystem in creating a less-cash society," NPCI Managing Director and CEO A P Hota said.
NPCI, which was set up in 2009 as infrastructure for various retail payment systems in the country, was envisaged by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as the payment utility for all banks in the country.
