NPCIL-Areva pact will help shed light on technical aspects of
Press Trust of India New Delhi A Pre-Engineering Agreement (PEA) signed between NPCIL and French multinational Areva would bring clarity on the technical aspects of the Jaitapur Nuclear Project, Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh, replying to a question, said the PEA was signed on April 10 this year.
"The PEA will help bring clarity on the technical aspects of the plant, help make a detailed safety assessment and take up the licensing process with Atomic Regulatory Board," he said.
An MoU was also signed between L&T and Areva with the aim of increasing localisation in conformation with the 'Make in India' campaign, he added.
Stating that several steps have been taken to address concerns of people, Singh said additional compensation by Maharashtra Government, attractive rehabilitation and resettlement policy provisions, and addressing apprehensions of people around Jaitapur regarding the safety of the plant are among such initiatives.
To a question, the minister said that India has not signed any agreement with France on the Jaitapur nuclear project.
