"We had constructed 120 ROB/RUB at unmanned level crossings in the last financial year. This fiscal our target is to construct 336 ROB/RUB, as preventing train accidents is our major thrust area," Northern Railway General Manager A K Puthia said.
Railways aim to eliminate all unmanned level crossings across the country as it feels they are major cause of train accidents.
Besides measures to strengthen safety, Northern Railway has set a target of laying 296-km new rail tracks and doubling it in the current financial year as part of its capacity augmentation.
On passenger amenities, he said the zone has earmarked Rs 16,000 crore to develop various facilities for passengers on the rail premises.

"We are installing lifts and escalators at all major stations to facilitate smooth passage for passengers. As per the plan we will install 80 lifts and escalators at the stations in 2016-17," he said.
The Railways observed a week-long 'Rail Hamsafar' week from May 26 to June 1 during which it carried out drives related to cleanliness, punctuality, ticket checking and quality of catering and water booths among others.
On the punctuality rate of trains, Northern Railway was able to register 82.3 per cent for Mail/Express ones and 72 per cent for passenger trains.
Bad weather affected the punctuality rate, otherwise it could have been higher, Puthia said.
Recounting highlights of the thematic programmes held during the week, he said "the focus of first day was on cleanliness. We carried out a massive cleanliness drive in all major stations of the zone involving voluntary organisations, NGOs and charitable organisations."
An amount of Rs 1,99,602 was realised as fine during the checks with the message of zero tolerance towards flouting of mandatory stipulations at food stalls, he said.
