The stringent National Security Act (NSA) has been slapped against a medical technician here for allegedly performing pre-natal sex determination tests, the first time that the act has been invoked in such a case.
Gwalior District Collector P Narhari yesterday ordered detention of Kapil Pandey, a medical technician, for a year under NSA, after a sting operation conducted by the local administration found that he was allegedly involved in the illegal activity, official sources said today.
Pandey was allegedly found to be conducting ultrasound tests and advising women to undergo abortion in case of female foetus, the sources said. He was arrested yesterday by Gwalior police.
In his order, Narhari said Pandey was operating an ultrasound machine from his house without permission and registration and indulging in the act for a long time.
He allegedly used to advice women to undergo abortion when a female foetus was found in their wombs and he charged heavily for this.
The Collector had ordered a sting operation on Pandey around a month back.
