Assam Rifles today gunned down another hardcore cadre of NSCN(K) during an encounter and recovered huge quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives from a site on the outskirts of the state capital.
An Assam Rifles patrol team was fired upon in the early hours today by NSCN (K) militants who had set up a temporary camp in the jungles of Puliebadze, around 7 km from Kohima town, AR officials said.
The security force retaliated and, in the shootout, one NSCN(K) militant was killed, they said.
On searching the area, the patrol team recovered one 9 mm sub-machine-carbine, one .32mm pistol, four assorted gun and pistol magazines, 81 rounds of assorted ammunition, three Chinese grenades, two IEDs and two military grade anti-tank mines, officials said.
Recovery of the weapons and ammunition indicate that the militants were in the process of carrying out terror activities in Kohima and adjoining areas, the AR officials added.
