Slamming Delhi Police over the death of a 19-year-old girl in Anand Parbat area, National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) today issued a notice to Police Commissioner B S Bassi asking him to appear before it on Monday.
NCSC Vice Chairman Rajkumar Verka also criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for announcing a solatium of just Rs. Five lakh and issued a notice to him seeking to enhance the solatium to 20 lakh, besides offering a government job to one of the family members in the deceased family.
Nineteen-year-old Minakshi was brutally stabbed to death allegedly by two brothers living in the Anand Parbat area for protesting their verbally abusing her on July 16.
Verka recorded the statement of the victim's parent -- Raj Kumar and Usha Devi -- who charged that the names of two accused Jai Prakash and Elu were included in the FIR but the name of duo's mother Shahi, who they said, was the main "conspirator" was missing in the FIR.
"A notice has been issued to Police Commissioner Bassi on July 27 to appear before the Commission," a statement by the commission said.
The victim's relatives had made a complaint with the police in 2013, but no action was taken, it alleged.
Taking a dig at Kejriwal's government for earmarking Rs. 526 crore for advertisements, Verka wondered why Kejriwal has declared only Rs. Five lakh, which is "grossly inadequate".
Verka further demanded free medical treatment for ailing Meenakshi's parent.
