Scores of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) activists today staged a protest outside the BJP headquarters here demanding A CBI inquiry into "the Vyapam Scam".
Protestors, who begun their agitation around 3 PM this afternoon, also demanded the release of 25 NSUI activists, including organisation's national president Roji M John who was yesterday detained by Indore police while staging protest there.
NSUI activists raised slogans against Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
"We were yesterday peacefully staging protest demanding CBI inquiry into the Vyapam Scam and resignation of CM in Indore, but police resorted to lathicharge and Water cannon against the protestors.
"Police have detained our national president Roji M Johan and other 24 activists, but they have not been freed by the government so far," Amrish Ranjan Pandey, national spokesperson (NSUI), said.
Pandey also said that they would continue their protest until NSUI president and other activists are freed from the jail by the state police.
"NSUI strongly condemns the brutal action taken by BJP led Madhya Pradesh Government, which is strying to snatch our democratic right from us to protest. Why is state government not taking action in Vyapam Scam," Pandey said.
When senior police official intervened in the matter, NSUI activists then called off their protest.
