Working overtime, Kahalgaon Super Thermal power project has exceeded the target of building toilets in school in four districts of Bihar and Jharkhand.
NTPC Kahalgaon was given a target to construct 2,405 toilets in 1,335 schools in four districts - Bhagalpur, Banka and Khagaria in Bihar and Godda in Jharkhand - and it established 2,424 toilets and handed them to the school authorities by August 14 this year, Group General Manager (GGM) NTPC Kahalgaon N N Mishra said today.
Giving details, Mishra said they built 1,072 conventional toilets in schools, more than half of it in girls schools, 988 pre-fabricated toilets and under Memorandum of Understanding with Bihar and Jhakhand governments for building 302 and 62 toilets during the period.
Under MOU, the NTPC made a payment at the rate of Rs 1.50 lakh per toilet to the respective governments, he added.
Under the programme 'Swacha Vidyalaya Abhiyan', Ministry of Human Resources Development has furnished list of schools where a public sector organisation has to build toilets in its surrounding areas.
The Kahalgaon NTPC GGM said "we'll not rest after completing the target. We have decided to build an additional 200 toilets in other schools in these districts on our own out of our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities in 2015-16."
"We'll build these 200 additional toilets under our CSR activities in and around Kahalgaon by March 2016," Mishra said.
NTPC Kahalgaon would maintain these toilets for two years from its own resources, he said.
