NTPC's 50 MW solar power plant in Madhya Pradesh commissioned

NTPC's solar power project in Madhya Pradesh, the biggest in the country using domestically manufactured modules, has been commissioned.
The 50 MW plant in Rajgarh, which was set up by Tata Power Solar for state-owned NTPC, will be used to supply electricity to about 90,000 households a year.
The photovoltaic project for NTPC was commissioned "as part of their mandate to expand their renewable energy portfolio to 1,000 MW by 2017," Tata Power Solar said in a statement.
The Rajgarh plant is the largest Indian solar project to use domestically manufactured solar modules, according to the statement.
"We, at NTPC, are increasing our focus on renewables, in particular solar energy. With the commissioning of Rajgarh Solar Project, the solar power generation capacity in NTPC has reached 95 MW," said A K Jha, Director (Technical) at NTPC.

Apart from Tata Power Solar's team, more than 2,000 people from villages nearby were employed for the civil, mechanical and structural works, the company said.
"This project bears testimony to Tata Power Solar's 25 year strong lineage and the ability to bring together our strengths in manufacturing world-class solar modules and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) capabilities," said Ajay Goel, Chief Executive Officer of Tata Power Solar.
The company operates a 200 MW solar module manufacturing plant in Bangalore and has designed and built more than 160 MW of grid-connected projects to date.
