"So far, we have recovered 14 cadavers," said a statement released today by the public ministry, as the search continues for more bodies the notorious General Penitentiary of Venezuela.
The government closed the prison on October 28 to end weeks of clashes between inmates fighting for control of the facility.
There also had been complaints that inmates had died because of inadequate food and medicine.
The facility had an estimated 9,000 inmates before the closure, according to the non-governmental group A Window on Freedom.
