At the IIT convocation to be held on Saturday and Sunday, 298 research scholars will be awarded PhD and another 28 MS Research degree.
The IIT officials said a 20 per cent increase in doctoral degree recipients this year from the last year denotes extensive growth in research-oriented education, which the institute has been focusing in recent years.
The institute has made a significant improvement in intake of research scholars as well.
Besides, they also have another 26 post-doctoral fellows.

"The outcome of this research focus is very much evident with IIT-Kharagpur being ranked by DST among the top three science and technology research institutions in India. Several IIT-Kharagpur faculty members are cited as top researchers in various fields of research," officials said.
Recently, the IIT received the National Intellectual Property award under the category 'Top Academic Institute for Patents 2016'.
The IIT has also launched joint PhD programmes with Curtin and Melbourne universities.
