About 200 nurses (male and female) affiliated to the organisation representing contractual nurses at MGM Medical College went on strike from yesterday demanding implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission and the state-appointed Brahma Swaroop Committee report on hiking salary and stipend, they said.
The strike affected the services at Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital, Mental Hospital, Cancer Hospital and the Chacha Nehru Bal Chiktsaylya inconveniencing patients.
However, Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital deputy superintendent Dr K K Verma denied reports that the strike has affected the medical services.
"We have asked the paramedical staff from various nursing schools and colleges to attend to the patients and there was no effect of the strike. Besides, 300 regular nursing staff has also been alerted to meet any exigency in these hospitals," he told PTI.
Verma, however, said that the Madhya Pradesh Government has already released a fund of Rs 3.5 crore to meet some of the demands of the striking employees.
Meanwhile, the striking nurses held sit-in demonstrations at their respective places of work including the MY Hospital, sources said, adding absence of nurses inconvenienced patients, especially those admitted in ICUs and CCUs.
