Students of a nursing college today staged a protest and blocked the Jind-Narwana national highway here for over five hours, demanding the removal of their principal over her alleged improper behaviour.
Girl students of Birender Singh Nursing College first held a demonstration within college premises, raising slogans against the principal, Anitha Priya, and later blocked the Jind-Narwana national highway.
DSP Pooran Singh Pawar rushed to the spot with a large contingent of police but failed to curb the protest. The blockade continued for over five hours as the students demanded a meeting with Birender Singh, the owner of the college and a Rajya Sabha MP from Congress.
The students raised various issues, including the behaviour of the principal, which, they said, was unworthy of the post she was holding.
Some students alleged that the principal used to make derogatory remarks on their character.
A college spokesperson has denied all these allegations and claimed that the principal was merely discharging her duties of maintaining discipline in the institution.
"Students are making baseless allegations on the principal," said Sajjan Sheokand, member of college committee.
Some college staff also joined the students during the protest and handed over their resignation letters to the college administration.
