NYT prints a correction to 'Slave' story 161 years later

The New York Times has issued a correction 161 years later for their 1853 story on Solomon Northup, whose memoir was the subject of this year's best picture Oscar winner '12 Years A Slave'.
The old article, which was published after Northup managed to free himself from captivity, started circulating online as '12 Years A Slave' won at the Oscars.
A reader noted that the article spelled Northup's name incorrectly in two places following which the paper printed a correction.
"An article on Jan 20, 1853, recounting the story of Solomon Northup, whose memoir '12 Years A Slave' became a movie 160 years later that won the best picture Oscar at the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday night, misspelled his surname as Northrop. And the headline misspelled it as Northrup.

"The errors came to light on Monday after a Twitter user pointed out the article in The Times archives. (The errors notwithstanding, The Times described the article as "a more complete and authentic record than has yet appeared.")," the correction read.
