The Foundation envisions a library that reflects Obama's values and priorities throughout his career in public service, including expanding economic opportunity, inspiring an ethic of American citizenship, and promoting peace, justice, and dignity throughout the world, a media release said yesterday.
The Foundation is also seeking to build a facility that will cultivate a strong relationship with the surrounding community and be an anchor for economic development, it said.
"Our goal is to build a library of which the whole country, and hopefully the whole world, can be proud," said Marty Nesbitt, Obama's personal friend and a co-chair of the foundation.
Obama's home town Chicago and Hawaii, where he was born, are considered to be the two possible venues of the multi-million projects, which would be a tourist attraction as well. The Foundation expects to reach a decision and select a site in early 2015, the statement said.
