The victim's grandson, Karanveer had come across the body lying in a pool of blood in the morning and subsequently he raised an alarm at around 7 am, police said.
"The deceased, Somwati, was strangled and attacked with a knife as there were multiple wounds on her body. Cash and jewellery was found missing from the house," said a police official.
"It appears that the attacker(s) gained friendly entry into the house. We have not found any door or window being broken," he said, adding that the house was found ransacked, but it could have been done to distract investigating teams.
"It is hard to believe that he failed to hear any scream for help. We are probing the case from all possible angles," the official added.
The body was taken to AIIMS for post mortem after a crime and forensic team examined the house and a case of murder has been lodged with Sangam Vihar police station, police said.
