Congress MLC Jaiprakash Chhajed raised the issue during Question Hour alleging that receipts were being forged at important octroi posts in Dahisar, Mulund, Sewri and Vashi, in New Mumbai.

He alleged that BMC officials and agents were hand-in- glove because of which the civic body was facing loss worth several crores.

In his reply, Patil said, "The anti-corruption bureau (ACB), suo-motto took action and they also seized forged receipts from there (octroi posts). It conducted raids at three booths and 44 vehicles were impounded," he said, adding after raids, revenue from octroi posts increased by about Rs 1.25 to 1.5 crore.

Patil said since the octroi comes under the jurisdiction of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the state government would direct the civic-body to take action against officials who indulge in such malpractices.

State Home Minister R R Patil, who was present in the House, asked the BMC to set up "vigilance squads" to keep watch at octroi posts.
