Odisha Assembly was stalled for the third consecutive day today as Opposition members stormed the well slamming BJD government over the chitfund scam and alleged use of abusive words by Agriculture Minister Pradip Maharathy against a woman BJP MLA.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, both Congress and BJP members were on their feet shouting slogans and waving placards against BJD government for 'loot of poor people's hard-earned money by tainted chitfund companies'.
Angry opposition members also made a noisy protest against alleged abusive language used by Maharathy against BJP member Radharani Panda in the House on Thursday.
Panda, legislator from Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district, continued her sit-in in front of the Speaker's podium while her party colleagues raised slogans demanding action against Maharathy.
While attacking the Speaker and the government for failing to address the issue, Congress members also shouted slogans against the government demanding its resignation over the chit fund scam which is being probed by CBI.
As slogan-shouting Congress members trooped into the well, ruling BJD MLAs were also on their feet waving placards demanding immediate central assistance for calamities wrought by Cyclone Phailin last year and Cyclone Hudhud.
As pandemonium prevailed Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House till 11.30 am. When the House reassembled, similar scenes were witnessed leading to adjournment till 12.30 pm, then till 3 pm, 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm.
An all party meeting was convened by the Speaker in an effort to resolve the issue.
