The issue of 18-year-old Odisha athlete Dutee Chand not allowed to participate in the Commonwealth Games due to a genetic disorder figured in the Rajya Sabha today with members urging the government to look into the matter.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Bhupinder Singh (BJD) said the poor girl who has brought laurels for the country was deprived of her participation in the Commonwealth Games due to a genetic problem as she was not responsible for it.
"This is most unfortunate," Singh said.
"We are losing a P T Usha of the future," he said adding if something has gone wrong it needs to be rectified.
Singh said the Sports Authority of India (SAI) conducted a test on Dutee in Bangalore for which her consent was not even taken.
"She has not been taken into confidence. No family member was present when she was taken by a doctor for this test. She was asked to give an undertaking. She was forced to give this undertaking," he said.
