"Though the Directorate General of Factory Advise Service and Labour Institute (DGFASLI) has four Regional Labour Institutes in different parts of the country, none of them are based in Odisha," Patnaik said in a letter to Minister of Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes.
Patnaik said "There is need to set up a Regional Labour Institute within the state for upgrading the Industrial safety standards, improving the factory inspection and providing safety audit services."
Patnaik said there were about 3700 registered factories and 1800 registered boilers in the state.
Patnaik said he would like to request the Centre to take steps for setting up a Regional Labour Institute under the DGFASLI.
