Announcing plans to set up a state-of-the-art world class institute for skill development in Odisha, the Oil Ministry today made functional its first ever skill development institute of the country here.
"The proposed institute will include multitude of trades/courses required by the Industry in general and Oil and Gas sector in particular which would come up as a model state-of-the-art Institute in the country," Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said.
Pradhan said the Oil Ministry would invest Rs 500 crore in the proposed world-class institute, if the state government supported and provided 100 acres of land at a suitable place.
The SDI, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today, has been set up by Indian Oil Corporation Limited with support from other Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the ministry. The SDI has already selected 90 students for initial training.
Pradhan said the SDI, Bhubaneswar, would provide certification courses in two trades - Industrial Welder and Electrician. The courses are aligned to the National Skills Qualification Framework of the central government and approved by the Sector Skill Councils under National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), he said.
Faculty from Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) will also be associated in the training process here. For the first course around 90 students have been selected and will undergo training for a period of 6 months.
