Decks are now cleared for ensuing the three-tire panchayat elections in the state as the Odisha government today informed the State Election Commission (SEC) about its preparedness for the polls that are likely to be held in February next year.
Stating that the state government is ready for the polls, Panchayati Daj department Secretary D K Singh said it has issued notification over its preparedness for the elections.
"The government has issued notification over its preparedness for the elections. Gazette notification regarding it would be issued on December 23. After then, the Election Commission would declare the date of polls," Singh said.
The elections would be held in 6805 Gram Panchayats and 853 Zilla Parishad zones.
Meanwhile, the SEC's all-party meeting regarding the upcoming polls was cancelled today since three major parties refrained from attending the meeting in view of BJP sponsored shut-down call of the state capital.
