Odisha's higher education minister Ananta Das today said the state is contemplating a ban on use of mobile phones in class rooms in schools, colleges and universities.
Though no such decision has been taken so far, the government has received proposals in this regards from different teachers associations.
"We are discussing how far this can be possible in Odisha," Das told reporters.
Referring to feedback received by the government, Das said the use of mobile phones in school corridors, specially in classrooms, disturbs and causes distraction in the learning atmosphere.
He said both students and teachers should avoid using mobile phones in classrooms.
The teachers should also avoid using mobile phones during evaluation of answer papers, Das said.
The minister said some colleges and varsities have already set up WiFi campus to make the students technology savvy and the plans to ban mobiles is only to bring discipline and create a healthy environment inside the classrooms.
