With the Special Vigilance Court rejecting bail application of arrested IAS officer Partha Sarathi Mishra, the Odisha government today placed him under suspension.
"Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik suspended OSIC MD Partha Sarathi Mishra who has been arrested by the vigilance," a communication received from the Chief Minister's Office said.
Earlier on February 16, Mishra was arrested by the anti-corruption vigilance under Prevention of Corruption Act.
The vigilance court rejected the bail plea of Mishra, after the government pleader argued that the arrested IAS officer could tamper evidence against him if released on bail.
"We had received several corruption allegations against Partha Sarathi Mishra in last six months including taking bribe from contractors and we were verifying the allegations secretly," said a senior vigilance officer.
The vigilance had conducted simultaneous raids at the private residence and official quarter of Mishra after seizure of cash about Rs 2 lakh from his car.
Mishra owns three massive buildings - one each at Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack whose value runs into over Rs 2.5 crore. Verification of immovable properties, bank accounts was under process. Preliminary investigation revealed that the bureaucrat amassed assets worth over Rs 5 crore.
