The announcement was made by Health and Family Welfare minister Atanu S Nayak while replying to series of questions in the assembly. "The state government will certainly give attention to the KBK region and ensure presence of doctors there," the minister said.
The members earlier alleged that doctors do not go to remote areas and prefer to stay in urban pockets thus denying health care service to the people living in KBK (Kalahandi- Balangir-Koraput) region.
During the question hour Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati took up the matter in the House. Other members Dr Raseshwari Panigrahi, Prafulla Majhi, Radharani Panda and Bibhuti Harichandan also participated in the discussion.
