The number of voters in Odisha has increased to about 2.89 crore even as the State Election Commission has deleted as many as 4.08 lakh names from the electoral rolls after verification, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mona Sharma said today.
A total of 2,88,80,850 electors are now left in the voters' list which includes 3.38 lakh voters in the age group of 18 years to 19 years, Sharma said.
"While the state had 2.84 crore voters by August 28, 2013, their number increased to about 2.89 crore, which include 1.50 crore male voters and 1.38 crore female voters, by January 15 this year. However, we have deleted about 4.08 lakh names from the voter list during the period," she said.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer here has so far issued 2.79 crore voter identity cards while it will provide voter I-cards with colour photos in the coming days.
Sharma said National Voters' Day will be celebrated across the state on January 25.
"Elector's Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) will be distributed among new voters of the local polling booth areas to mark this even. There are 35,896 polling stations in the state," she added.
