Three other occupants of the ambulance, including the driver, were injured after the vehicle collided with a lorry on National Highway-16 near Parawadapalem area under Kasimkota Police Station limits in the district, they said.
The deceased were identified as G Hara Prasad (49), the head constable, and his wife G Eswarai (42). Hara Prasad was attached with Bhanajanagar Police Station in Odisha's Ganjam district, they said.
Sub-Inspector M Srinivas of Kasimkota Police Station said Hara Prasad was a gastrointestinal patient and admitted to NRI Hospital in Guntur around 20 days back.
Unfortunately, the ambulance, bound for a hospital in Berhampur in Odisha, rammed into a lorry after its driver lost control, he said.
The injured, including the ambulance driver, were admitted to KG Hospital near here, the police officer said.
