Junior doctors of three government medical colleges in Odisha today decided to wear black badges from Monday demanding action against a professor of SCB medical college and hospital here, who was accused of sexually harassing and intimidating women junior doctors.
At least ten women junior doctors of the Cuttack teaching hospital had alleged that the professor had sexually harassed and intimidated them. The accused is now untraceable and incommunicado.
The Cuttack junior doctors have brought this to the notice of the State Women Commission (SWC) and the Commissionerate police.
Even a six-member in-house committee was formed taking some other professors of the medical college to probe into the alleged sexual slur against one of their colleagues, no agency has yet made any discernible progress in investigating the case forcing the junior doctors to the step.
"We had been silently waiting for all these days giving an opportunity to the government to act against the professor concerned, but nothing has happened during the past ten days," said JDA president Atma Ranjan Das here today.
Accordingly, the junior doctors of all three government colleges would wear black badges from Monday, Das said adding if the tainted professor was not placed under suspension and arrested within a week, they would be forced to boycott duties.
