Odisha's 6.23 lakh PLO families to get 25 kg cheap rice: Govt

Odisha government today announced its decision to provide 25 kg of cheap rice at the rate of Re 1 a kg to around 6.23 lakh PLO (poor and left out) families in 19 poverty stricken districts.
"The state government has decided that all PLO families will get 25 kg of cheap rice each at the rate of Re 1 every month from August, 2014 to March 2015," Food and Supplies Minister Sanjay Dasburma said in a statement in the assembly.
He said the beneficiary families will get the cheap rice under public distribution system (PDS).
The families identified under the PLO category were not mentioned in the BPL list. As many as 6,23,528 families have been identified under PLO category in 19 poor districts by the Central government.
The 19 districts were: Balangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Sundergarh.
