Odisha to beef up Community Policing System

With police often being targeted by masses over law and order matters, Odisha govenrment today stressed on strengthening the Community Policing System across the state.
"The suggestions made by the members of the community policing should be addressed promptly to make the scheme viabale," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said whie inagurating a two-day programme of police officers associated with community policing here.
As the community policing scheme has been implemented in all the 504 police stations across the state, Patnaik said there should a viable reception and strong Mahila and Sishu Desk in all the police station.
"Strenthening of reception and Mahila and Sishu Desk will help fulfilling the basic objective of community policing," Patnaik said.
The two-day training programme covered issues like the concept and practice of "Ama Police", Kerala's community policing scheme "Janamaitri" and effective comminication. About 160 officers from across Odisha participated in the training programme.
Similar trainng modules will be conducted in this calander year to include all officers associated with implementation of Ama Police scheme in the state, said Satyajit Mohanty, ADG and nodal officer for community police scheme.
