The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday, the sources said.
The target for 2012-13 has been decided at two lakh hectares at a cost of Rs 183 crore, as opposed to the target of 1.82 lakh hectare at an expenditure of Rs 160 crore in the last fiscal, they said.
The target for avenue plantation during the current fiscal has been fixed at 1,600 km, they said.
Senior forest officers explained in the meeting plans relating to afforestation, avenue plantation and raising of saplings and utilisation of funds under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Plantation Authority (CAMPA), the sources said.
Urban plantation and beautification activities would be taken up in 28 towns this fiscal, as against 12 towns where it was taken up during last financial year, they said, adding, around three lakh saplings would be planted in educational institutions and other places.
