An NGT-appointed local commisioner has expressed "dissatisfaction" with the arrangements made by Municipal Board Vrindaban for the disposal of garbage in the temple town.
Local commissioner Rahul Khurana said, "Starting with Math Road-based dumping ground, I visited refuse centres on Parikrama Marag, embankment of Yamuna and other areas. Broadly speaking the garbage is not abandoned as per the norms. Even lining of the litter at dumping site has not been done. At certain places litter was found on the road", he said.
Khanna was instructed by Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal headed by justice Swatanter Kumar, to make an on-the-spot inspection of disposal of municipal waste in Vrindaban.
He said considering the influx of pilgrims in Vrindaban, the state government should set up a litter-disposal plant in Vrindaban as early as possible.
"Now I would submit the report to honourable court in due course before April 7", he said stressing the need for public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness.
Madhu Mangal Shukla, a social worker, has filed a complaint in the NGT, alleging that state authorities including the Municipal Board Vrinaban has not made any proper arrangement for the disposal of refuse.
"Even the ordinary norms like construction of lining around the garbage, covering of garbage vehicles during its movement from city area to dumping ground, are not practiced," according to the complaint.
