A North Carolina man is in the custody of federal authorities, who say he planned assassinations in the United States in support of the Islamic State terrorist group.
Federal authorities said in a news release today that 19-year-old Justin Nojan Sullivan of Morganton faces several charges, including one count of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State group.
Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Carlin says Sullivan "was planning assassinations and violent attacks in the United States."
Sullivan also is charged with charges related to receiving a silencer.
Sullivan was arrested Friday at his home without incident and is expected to make his initial appearance today in federal court in Charlotte. It wasn't immediately known whether he had an attorney who could be contacted for comment on the case.
