Officials of Child Protection Office suspended

Two officials of the Child Protection Office in Odisha's Balasore district were suspended today for dereliction of duty following allegation of sexual harassment of minor girls in two short stay homes.
After an inquiry into the allegation and activities of the short stay homes, Balasore Collector Sanatan Mallick placed district child protection officer Smitanjali Beuria and programme officer Itishree Mahapatra on suspension, official sources said.
The district collecor also ordered for deregistration and closure of the two short stay homes - Bapuji Seva Sadan and Santwana Sudhar Griha, they said.
An inquiry had been conducted following a complaint about sexual harassment of minor girls sheltered in these short stay homes. Action was taken on the bais of the findings of the inquiry, source said.
