Omar launched the four-page pull out in the presence of Governor N N Vohra, trustees of the Tribune Trust Justice (retired) S S Sodhi, Lt Gen (retired) S S Mehta and media personality Naresh Mohan and Editor-in-Chief of the Tribune group Raj Changappa.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the launch of Kashmir Tribune has filled the information gap felt by people of the Valley due to the absence of a national newspaper.
"Tribune has filled the information gap but it has the challenge of continuing this initiative," he said.
He lauded the newspaper for maintaining high standards of objective reportage saying it will stand to its advantage in the long run.
"Tribune has the advantage that it is still a newspaper which is free from bias of corporate ownership and bias of individual views. Other newspapers have become victims of these and the (phenomenon) of paid news," the CM said.
Omar said while he had no problems with critical reporting by the media, he was against "unnecessary" critical coverage of the issues.
