The Chief Minister, who also drew a raffle at the fair, laid emphasize on the participation of all, particularly youths, in Red Cross programmes to extend services to the people. He said one should voluntarily come forward for such services.
Red Cross is an organisation dedicated to the help and welfare of poor, needy, deserving and destitute, Omar said, underlining its role during calamities and hours of challenge.
Striking a personal note, Omar said he used to visit Red Cross Melas with his grandmother Late Begum Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the first chairperson of J&K Red Cross Society, in his childhood.
He said these Melas not only act as awareness camps for circulating the message of Red Cross, but provide the people with opportunity to contribute towards its activities.
The Chief Minister witnessed a Rangoli programme prepared by the students of Sarwal Higher Secondary School. He visited various stalls in the fair.
