On duty civic volunteer 'assaulted' by police officer

A civic volunteer today complained that he was assaulted by a police officer while he was doing his duty in front of a shopping mall at Jailkhana More in Burdwan.
Civic volunteer Shobhan Paul said as part of his duty, he was segregating parked motorbikes in which keys were left as there had been complaints of theft of motorbikes from that spot.
One of the two-wheelers moved by Paul was that of traffic inspector Tarak Mullick.
When Mullick returned, he asked Paul how he dared to touch his motorbike and assaulted him, the civic volunteer alleged.
"Mullick beat me up before the public even after I gave him my identity and told him I was doing what I was asked to do by senior police officers," Paul said adding he was thinking of quitting the job.

The traffic inspector also threatened another man who tried to intervene, he claimed.

Mullick, on the other hand, denied that he assaulted the civic volunteer but admitted that shouted at him.
The matter has been settled in the police station, he said.
District Superintendent of Police Kunal Agarwal said he did not know the incident and would look into it.
