A 30-year-old plumber based at Qatar has been arrested for allegedly sending abusive messages on Facebook and email to a married woman from Kendrapara district of Odisha.
The accused Sanjay Kundu, a native of Kajalabandha village under Pattamundai police jurisdiction committed the cyber crime in Qatar where he is employed in a private construction farm as a skilled plumber, the police said today.
Kundu was infatuated and obsessed after coming in contact with the woman through Facebook and was annoyed after the victim rejected him from the Facebook friends' list. Later he sent objectionable and abusive massages after being spurned by the woman, the police said.
Kundu developed a grudge against the woman and wanted to take revenge on her. He had returned home from Qatar last week and desired to meet the married woman.
Worried over the romantic advances made by him, she lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered against him.
A trap was laid and the victim was asked by the police to invite the accused to her home. Later the police took him into custody yesterday.
"The accused confessed to the crime. He was arrested under sections 66 (A, C and D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Later he was sent to jail after the local court rejected his bail plea," said Kendrapara Superintendent of Police, Rabi Narayan Behera.
