To bring to light the sufferings of physically abused women and children, which has shown a rise all over the world, the global 'One Billion Rising Revolution' hosted its city show here with hundreds of kids matching their steps to songs.
"Today we have all assembled together to stamp our disapproval through the medium of dance and street play. This shows women can't be defeated by violence and we have the sky to spread our wings. The street drama shows that we will resist when the push comes to shove," Ankita Sehgal, one of the local spearheads of the campaign, told PTI here.
"Besides the children and their NGO 'didis', young professionals, college students, home makers took part in the rally which is a world-wide movement for justice and gender equality. We are part of the global movement on this very date," Ankita said.
Wiktor from Poland said he was happy to see so many smiling faces staging skits and plays in local language at the venue but the message is universal.
One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women with the 'billion' having references to the UN statistic that one in three women get raped or beaten up in their lifetime or about one billion in total all over the globe.
"We are proud to be part of the show," a Twists and Turns spokesperson said.
