Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshavardhan Patil said the session of the Upper House would be convened on May 8.
"Governor has given his consent. The one-day session will see election of new chairman, introduction of new members and election of new leader of the opposition," he said.
Sources said that veteran Congress leader Shivajirao Deshmukh, re-elected to the upper house in March, would be re-elected as the chairman.
Vinod Tawde too is likely to continue as Leader of the Opposition as his party, BJP, has more members than alliance partner Shiv Sena, sources said.
