Construction projects amounting to Rs 1,000 crore were stopped in the middle in the district due to non-availability of adequate sand for the last few days, joint committee of construction related associations said today.
As against the requirement of 1,000 loads a day, only 100 loads are available for the construction sector, due to which housing and Government projects and also individual house construction were stalled, President of Local Chapter of Builders Association of India, K Rajavel told reporters here.
Though chief minister during a meeting with association members on June 17 has promised to open more sand quarries and distribution of full quantity of sand will be implemented through PWD, nothing had happened so far, Rajavel said.
In order to highlight their problem, 11 associations related to construction industry have decided to conduct one-day strike coupled with a rally in the city on July six, he said.
Besides, the associations wanted the government to reduce the registration charges and stamp duty of 11 per cent, as against seen per cent in other states, Rajavel said.
