A member of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan has been killed in a helicopter crash in the south of the country, the NATO-led force said in a statement.
It was not immediately clear if the crash was an accident or the result of hostile action.
"An International Security Assistance Force service member died as a result of a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan today," ISAF said.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic event."
Aircraft crashes have been a regular risk for the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, with troops relying heavily on air transport to battle the Taliban insurgency across the south and east of the country.
Last month, a Lynx helicopter crashed during a routine flight in the southern province of Kandahar, killing five British troops in what the Ministry of Defence said appeared to be a "tragic accident".
