One dead in Odisha flash flood, another missing

One person died and another went missing in flash floods in southern Odisha due to low pressure induced incessant rains lashing the state for the last two days, officials said today.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) G V V Sarma said a 40-year old person of Similiguda in Koraput district died today after being swept away by flood water.
Another person of Koraput block is missing, he said.
Train service was affected as stones loosened by heavy rains fell on the railway track near Machkund in Koraput-Rayagada and Koraput-Vishakhapatanam sections of East Coast Railway, an official release said.
The SRC said 45 blocks in the southern districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Bolangir and Ganjam received rainfall of more than 100 mm, while 9 of them received more than 200 mm.
The districts which received rainfall of more than 100 mm were Kalahandi (164), Nabarangpur (160.6), Koraput (129.8), Rayagada (123.8) and Kandhamal (104.6).

There is water-logging and floods in all these districts due to heavy rainfall. He said.
Hati river is flowing about five feet above the bridge at Junagarh disrupting communication between Bhawanipatna and Nabarangpur (NH-26). Traffic over this bridge has been closed since 7.00 p m yesterday, he said.
The SRC said about 35 people have been evacuated from Balichhada, Biripur and Matikhal villages of Kalampur block besides Kotengaon village of Junagarh block. The people were given shelter in a nearby school and free kitchen was organised for them.
Dry food was provided to about 480 people of village Kotengaon, Sarma said.
