One dies of heatwave in Odisha as mercury touches 43 degree C

The Odisha government today confirmed the death of one person in the heatwave as most parts sizzled with the mercury crossing 40 degree Celsius in 19 places and Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna recording 43 degrees Celsius.
"We have received 10 complaints of heatwave deaths from across the state. But one report from Cuttack district is a confirmed case of heatwave death. The government is verifying other cases," Special Relief Commissioner P K Mohapatra said.
While western towns of Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna recorded 43 degrees C each, other towns like Sambalpur recorded 42.5, Hirakud 42.3, Jharsuguda 41.8, Balangir 42.2 and Sonepur 41.2.
The coal belt of Angul recorded 42.7 degrees C followed by Talcher with 42.5 degrees C.
The state capital of Bhubaneswar which recorded 42.8 degrees C yesterday, registered 42.7 with Cuttack touching 40 degrees C.
Other places where above 40 degrees C was recorded were Dhenkanal (42.2), Chandbali (42.1), Malkangiri (42), Baripada (42), Balasore (41.5), Sundergarh (40.5), Keonjhargarh (40) and Phulbani (40).
Stating that the Chief Secretary would review the situation tomorrow, Mohapatra said all collectors were asked to take measures as the MeT office forecast that the heat wave would continue.
